Having walked the walk of caring for our home while handling numerous outside commitments for 35 plus years, I decided 10 years ago to share my experiences and founded HomeAdvantage Plus.
If you do the math, you know how long I have been at the business of homemaking…along time! Believe it or not, I love it. But, don’t get me wrong, I don’t always like it. There is a difference and it is that difference that will make or break us when it comes to the daily cycle of the care of the home. I consider love to be the invisible engine that pulls theload while keeping the like in check.
There are so many variables when it comes to our homes. First of all, no two are exactly alike. Have you ever really considered this uncontested fact?Just think about it: you can have two homes side by side, same model, same number of rooms, same number of people living in each home and they will be completely different. They are different because each person within the home is unique and thus each home will necessarily be unique. What follows is a definite uniqueness in its care.
We seldom, if ever, think about this fact but rather compare and expect, from a magazine or TV show, the quick fix without considering the physical and humanrealities that make its care, at times, daunting.
In recent years, we all have been concerned about our natural environment and along with what is happening on the world stage today, it is easy to let our home environment slide to the back burner. Everything is boiling over on the front burner from the countless time commitments outside the home to personal upheavals inside the home.
Many of us ask ourselves, ‘Why is the care of the home really important?’ — after all, there are so many other things that ultimately are more important — our relationships with our spouses, friends, children, enjoying their company, concern for their inner well being, education and development.
Most of us would agree that these “intangibles” are the real priorities in our lives. But what we soon discover is that it becomes difficult to focus on these “intangibles” when our physical environment is disorganized and we have trouble just finding the keys or getting the dinner on the table.
Today, people see the need to articulate the deeper reasons for many aspects of life. It may be because life moves so quickly and there is so much coming at us that unless we take time to reflect and discuss matters that are near and dear to us, their meaning tends to get lost in the everyday routine. When the reason for doing anything is front and center in our hearts and minds, it becomes easier to persevere in the moments that are less rewarding and more demanding. I have discovered that this is especially true when it comes to the care of the home.
Our homes have an important influence on our overall sense of well being, happinessand effectiveness in our personal and family lives.
